i'm thinking about moving to tumblr :/
lately i've felt like i can't keep up with the times, not only because it's summer, but everything and everyone is being so competitive!
two things i'm hoping to do this summer is be more selfless and to live life slow... take time to read a book and enjoy my day instead of rushing to the next new thing that pops up.
one thing that remains constant is none other than good food! not only that, but with good food comes good company. i've been telling everyone how i've notice how much more we've been eating now that we can actually drink at happy hours (leading to drunken convos and ordering more food) and how recession has fast food at it's cheapest! buy one get ones, bargains, discount meals and coupons are a college kids' best friend :)
is it just me or are there a bunch of FOOD-related blogs out? sometimes i feel full just watching Food Network all day esp. when Guy Fieri is eating all this greasy ass food... on TV one day, this woman was talking about how the quality of food has been better because people have more sophisticated palettes. whether it be dim sum, super fries, sushi, or steak... everyone is a connoisseur to their liking. people are better at putting a name to their tastes, and matching drinks to fit their meals... if i'm the only one who is noticing this, then maybe i should go to cooking school?
besides food another thing that's been on my TV are re-runs of Elmo. Baby Lo takes over the living room demanding to "WATCH ELMO!!!" i think i've got all the alphabet and number songs down by now... no wonder i haven't listened to anything new in a while...

seeing the sights.
wow this feels really foreign to me.
i'll admit that i attepted to post what's been going on lately, but i never finish. then i feel like it's outdated and start from scratch. so this time i'm hoping to finish this one.
one reason i decided to blog today was because of what someone told me at church. she gave me prophetic word that i had something to say and wasn't saying it. also, that something was holding me back from expressing what it was. the week before that, Johnny also gave me word that i needed a clean canvas to refresh my creativity because there's a wall built between me and making something beautiful.
for those of you who don't understand prophetic word, it's a way God gives a message to someone through someone else. it can be in a vision, a dream, etc... this is pretty new to me too. sometimes the word can be interpreted in the wrong way, but there's an underlying truth to it.
so far this is the second time someone has said something about my creative block so this is an effort break it.
so these past two months have been really crazy! not just in a partying, going out all the time sense, but overall in LIFE! i'm starting to realize that i really am moving too fast. for one, i feel like i just moved to Long Beach and next year i'll be ready to graduate!?!?! i really don't know why i put a bunch of things on my plate at once. i'm already busy enough with things i "need" to do and still add on everything i "want" to do. maybe life is too short for everything that i "want" and i can't have everything... it's sad but most likely true, and if you're telling yourself that everything and anything is possible, i'm sure if i showed you my bucket list that you would change your mind.
but back to the haps... uhmmmm i really want to put up pictures and videos, but i'll do that later because they're on my mac :P
okay well for my spring break, i decided to tour (almost) everywhere in LA that i haven't been to yet: The Ripley's Believe it or NOT Museum, The Guinness World Records Museum, The Wax Museum, The Getty, Venice Beach, etc... i'm pretty sure there's a lot of things i left out, but for the most part, YES they're mostly "museums" BUT they're all different! for my sister's spring break we continued the LA journey and took those big double decker tourist buses. they're pretty new so if you decide to go on them don't expect anything fancy. the nicest bus is the one that goes around Hollywood. look out for low tree branches and remember to wear sunblock! and i would advise you to pay with cash because their credit card "machine" takes about 10 mintues to process each card. we took the metrolink there and back and what i thought was the coolest thing about the tickets was that it tells you how much you pay to take the train compared to how much your gas would have cost if you drove (based on a 35 mpg car). my favorite part about the ride was that i got to see all the graf art up on the trains and walls around them. one thing i noticed was that the closer we got to LA the bigger and more elaborate they got.
as for what people bitch about to be another "man-made holiday" aka 4-20, i just want to let all of them know that mine was pretty freaking amazing. and if those same people who bitch about it being a man-made holiday are out there shopping on Black Friday, i salute all of them with my middle finger :)
ANYWAYS. it all started when Angel gave me the Magic Cookies...
after a long over due kick is sesh with the best friend, he hooked it up with some goodies to make my WEEK.
me and the boyfriend went to The Viper Room to watch Sashamon, Tribal Seeds and Rootz Underground. truth be told, the order in which the bands performed should have been switched around because the headliner wasn't even as good as the first opening act. i'll feel rude to name names, but all i have to say is if you're looking for some chill reggae to bob your head to, i highly recommend Rootz Underground. if you want a more upbeat sound, listen to Tribal Seeds, and if you need some of that island relaxation, listen to Sashamon :)
i wanted to write a piece on my cousin's birthday party and all the people who were there that i grew up with, but my eyelids are halfway shut. pls don't mind the typosssss

online frenzy
this morning i treated myself to chocolate chip pancakes and a cup of coffee :)
the interesting part about it was what i found rummaging through a pile of old mail. my mom subscribes to a bunch of magazines for my nieces and nephews fundraisers and i don't even thinks she reads half of them. they usually end up in the bathroom with the other outdated books with BabyLo's scribbles on them.
so i found myself jotting down a bunch of online blogs recommended in an article of Sunset Magazine and i noticed that the next couple pages were all about Long Beach. I've been living down there for a while (right now i'm back in Walnut visiting the fam) and have seen some amazing things! Most of the places they talked about were on 4th street and if you're wondering "Where at!?" don't worry i'll hook you up.
i'll start off with some personal favorties....

the homegirl Anna took me out there one night to see a friend perform for Open Mic night. They have them on Wednesdays @ 9pm, signups start at 8pm. Also check out a weekly open mic event in Long Beach called Soul Fire.
this place gets packed on Wednesday nights, on the daily you can find different desserts being served and if you're lucky you'll be there when they serve their Boston Cream Pie. If you're looking for something new, the Peanut Butter Iced Mocha is bommmmmmb. maybe you're thinking about a drink that has a wierd consistency, but you.are.soooo.wrong! haha try it! Another thing i like is that they always display artwork from local artists and change it up often.

this spot is right down the street from where i work so i'm glad i can just walk down there during a long break. I'ts next to Buffalo Exchange and 2nd street overall is a really cool place to be. but back to the store... it offers a respectable mix of new and used CDs, DVDs, Records, Books, T-shirts, Posters, etc... think of a mini version of Amoeba. i wish they had a larger selection of hip hop, but it may have been the reason i found a bunch of out-of-the-ordinary music for my taste. my art teacher at the time had us read a lot of Beat poetry and i was surprised that they had original recordings from the poetry lounge where Jack Keroac and other beats performed.
i personally haven't gone to the next couple of places, but i'll let you know when i do!
so far the info i'm giving out is from the articles. so if you haven't yet figured it out, i support small independent stores, second-hand stores and family businesses so the bulk of what i write (on fashion at least) will probably be about that.
